cheating husband ?

I recently found out that my husband had started flirting with one of our friends online 6 months ago, it lead to them both sending each other pictures of their bodies ( her breasts , his penis)
He claims that he deleted the image straight away and that she had told him she had aswell, They discussed that even if something could happen physically it shouldn't because they are both married. However she saved the image and her husband found it yesterday and the truth came out, her husband left her.
I spoke with her and she claims nothing else happened and that they both thought it was harmless fun but at the sametime new it was wrong. She sent me the image , I needed to know whether it was just a stupid snap shot or sexually bassed photo. It was sexually based, my husband claims it wasn't cheating because no sex was involved and nothing ever happened again, it was just something stupid between friends a prank. But my theory is if you cover something up, lie by omission and you know that your partner is going to be upset then you've cheated. If it was just something stupid a prank between friends than he would have told me.
Im so confused, we have been married 13years and together for 17 years we have had our good times and bad but we always pulled together. I've spent half my life loving and supporting him and he me. I just never thought this would ever happen he just isn't that type of person. I dont want to leave him we have two children and he's a wonderful father but I don't know if my heart can be mended, how do I trust and respect him for this ? how do I find forgiveness ?
