Diwali sweets

Well, Diwali is around the corner and so are sweets wink i'm looking out for some nice recipes BUT the catch here is that it should be a sweet without a load of ghee... i don't wanna pound on during Diwali you see..

I have one of my favorite sweet - Strawberry Fiesta here [stole it from my favorite magazine Femina], haan, its given below:

INGREDIENTS:
4 tbsp sliced strawberries
300g fresh low fat yoghurt [hung for one hour]
6 tsp sugar or 8 tsp sugar substitute
3 tbsp low-fat soya cream [available at groceries]
6-8 yummy strawberries, sliced, for garnish

METHOD:
1. Mash the strawberries [nicely]
2. Churn the yoghurt with the sugar
3. Mix the yoghurt, mashed strawberries and soya cream
4. Mix it well, chill in bowls or shot glasses [whichever you find fascinating]
5. Serve garnished with the sliced strawberries.

There you go... easy and quick !!

Let me know if you need more ghee-less mithai for Diwali.

Ciao smile

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it. Be a reason for others to smile.

Re: Diwali sweets

Tania..

Diwali is around the corner and you are right its time for some great mithais..

Funny that in India we directly associate festivals with food and sweets...

My favourite is moong dal halwa or moong sheera..

Roast moong dal about 250 gms in a pan till its nice brown in color and pressure cook it with very less water or you can even cook it in the stove directly. remember to use little water only and then mash it... well..

Another alternative being soak the roasted dal in water for 5 hrs and grind into a smooth paste in the mixie..

Take required sugar about 200 gms and boil it in a pan in 50 ml water...

Take half a cup of ghee in a pan and put the dal mixture in it and fry till the ghee separates...Now add about 10gms of unsweetened khoya to it and fry for another 5 minutes..

Add the sugar syrup and mix well till all the sugar is absorbed and again ghee starts separating ..

Garnish with sliced almonds..

Optional... You cna add yellow color to the sugar syrup and keep stirring to avoid burning or sticking. Use a non stick pan..

Cheers
