My son is addicted to internet. He is 14 y/o. He never concentrates on his studies. Just spend his 3-4 hrs on internet. Please suggest me how can I stop his internet addiction.

    Hi Shilpii,

I can understand your situation. Nowadays children all over the world have falled prey to the internet. The adoloscent kids either move towards Pornography or internet gaming, and both are dangerous and we need to wean them away from their habits.

Advise your son about the ill effects. Tell him that you would allow only a fixed time and that he has to finish. Dont keep the computer in a secluded place. Keep it in the hall or a common room and the monitor should be facing the person entering the room so that you are aware what he is doing on the net.

Encourage him to distribute his spare time between playing outside with his friends and browzing. Tell him, that you have nothing against his usage of internet, but only the long hours is of concern.

If he is still adamant and refuse to change, disconnect the internet connection and tell him in very strict terms that he would not be allowed access because of his disobedience. I am sure he would change over a period of time.

Please go through the below link. for more info.

try to indulge your son in other useful activities, such as: swimming, dancing, sports or painting. don't tell him directly to stop using internet, just make sure that you should be around him and check in between as what he is doing. give him some useful topics to search on net and give him reward when he does a good job.
