    Nutritional Value Of An Onion

    I don’t like to eat onion, but my mom add this vegetable to every dishes she prepare, if I don’t eat the food she start scolding me, I dono what is so rich in onion, can I know what all nutrition benefits does onion have??

    Onion is one of the healthiest vegetable, it is said to be antifungal and antibacterial, by consuming onion we gain many profits. The profits are as follows-

    1. Onion keeps blood sugar in control
    2. Burns unnecessary fat
    3. It cures disease like, Obesity, bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cold and bacterial infections
    4. Intake of onion can destroy worms in the intestine
    5. Increase the discharge of urine

    Calories - 60
    Calcium - 48 mg
    Carbohydrate - 16 gm
    Fiber - 3 gm
    Vitamin A - 75 IU
    Vitamin C - 9 mg
    Proteins - 1 gm
    Phosphorus - 66 mg
    Potassium - 200 mg
    Sodium - 5 mg

    I've also read in some health magazine that onions contain detoxifying chemicals and also help in preventing stomach cancer.

    Even I didn't like eating onions when I was young, but then I started with one single layer a day and increased it's consumption with time.
    Eventually, I started liking it.

    • They are also good source of antioxidant flavonoid quercetin, which is found to have anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic functions.
    • Pyridoxine or vitamin B-6 helps keep up GABA levels in the brain
    • Onions are also good in B-complex group of vitamins like pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, foliates and thiamin.

    People. I really agree to the fact that onions have high nutritional value!

    every vegetable on earth has its own benefits and drawbacks. just because a vegetable has various benefits, you cannot force down your throat and spoil your appetite.

    give a break. A meal without onion also is fine. What point does it make to eat something that you disgust? I bet food without Onion is as tasty as food with it. So many Marwari families still avoid onion but look as healthy as any of those who eat onion.

    So chinuku, you don't have to eat onion if you don't like it.
