I go to a Travel Agent to book a holiday (well actually I don't, but I might).

The Travel Agent will offer me a choice of holidays with different Tour Operators.

The Tour Operator is responsible for my holiday.
The Travel Agent takes my money.

Think of it like a restaurant. The waiter takes my order (the travel agent). The chef cooks the food (the tour operator).

    essedsiy tracks.

A tour operator actually operates tours. A travel agent can only book you on to one. The jobs are not the same at all except that they are both connected with travel.

So think of it like this - a travel agent ( E.g. http://www.makemytrip.com/ & http://www.weareholidays.co.in/ ) will have brochures from many different tour operators and be able to help you out or it may also help in providing tour packages, but once you've actually booked a trip, you are in the hands of the tour operator.
